Last week, my husband and I took the 6 hour drive down to Las Vegas, Nevada to enjoy the food, wine, and sights of the desert for a few days. On a beautiful, warm afternoon, Red Rock Canyon was our destination. Unfortunately it was also the destination of hundreds of "spring break" visitors as well, roads were congested, parking lots overflowing; not my kind of enjoyment. As a result, we did not even hike or climb. We drove along the 13 mile road taking in the sights & scenery by car, while I took a few pictures, successfully not photographing any people.
Red Rock Canyon lies west of Las Vegas, Nevada. Its diverse rock formations are stunning.
Here are a few snapshots:
One of these days, My Mountain Green will venture back to Red Rocks to hike the trail leading into the box canyon in the above photo! Without all the people next time!
While we did not have the experience we hoped, the stunning beauty of God's creation always lifts the soul.

Hi Kathyrn...I don't know if I will ever get to see this gorgeous place or not, but I will certainly remember the Spring break timing if I do ; }
The red rock is beautiful and how the colors change in layers down the canyon wall is amazing!!
Like the shots with the desert plants in the foregound!!
To bad timing wasn't great..
Grace
Thanks, Grace. These pictures don't even come close to its beauty.
I am amazed at such natural creations as these rocks Kathryn.
One of my favorite places I've been when I'm out there for work, though I rarely go that way. Mountain biked from Blue Diamond, then up to the south end of Red Rock, and back. Definitely no crowds that way, though less red rock-type scenery.
Lots of surprises in some of those canyons, like the ponderosa pines not far from Mojave plants.
#2-5 photos are such a nice series! Though you just can't go wrong at Red Rock. Thanks for sharing.
Kathryn, what great pictures and what a fun time! Sorry there were so many people though. With that many people around I bet you saw very few birds!
Roy, yes the contrast between the red rock and the white limestone is amazing.
David, thanks for stopping by and commenting. We drove out the same way, but turned north to the park entrance. This climate area seems to be dryer that ABQ area, less pines or mesquite all around, but I am not certain. I will have to be more aware next time I get that way.
Kathie, I was a little surprised that I did not see any birds at all in this area.
